DO

  • Keep copies of everything you submit
  • Send appeals by certified mail with return receipt
  • Meet all deadlines - even one day late can disqualify you
  • Be specific about why the decision was wrong
  • Include new evidence that supports your case
  • Request "aid pending" to keep benefits during appeal

DON'T

  • Wait until the last minute to file
  • Submit without keeping copies
  • Be rude or aggressive in your letter
  • Lie or exaggerate - this can hurt your case
  • Give up after one denial - many win on appeal
