Women, Infants, and Children
Overview
WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) provides nutritious foods, nutrition education, and healthcare referrals to pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5.
Who Qualifies
- Pregnant women
- Women who recently had a baby (up to 6 months, or 1 year if breastfeeding)
- Infants and children under 5
- Income at or below 185% of federal poverty level
- Must have a nutritional risk (determined at appointment)
How to Apply
- 1Find your local WIC office
- 2Schedule a certification appointment
- 3Bring proof of identity, income, and address
- 4Complete a nutrition assessment
What You Get
Monthly food packages including milk, eggs, cheese, cereal, juice, fruits, vegetables, and infant formula. Also nutrition counseling and breastfeeding support.
Processing Time
Can often be certified same day at your appointment.
Important Tips
- 💡 Fathers and guardians can apply on behalf of children
- 💡 WIC is not the same as SNAP - you can get both
- 💡 Many farmers markets accept WIC
- 💡 Breastfeeding moms get extra food benefits
